Mom Battle: I hate living in chaos, but I tend to let things get out of hand up in here!!

Our house has a lot of people in it, but perfect space if we are organized.

I am on a mission. Dave and I are very different with clutter. Dave still has his Spring Mountain Season Pass from 1994 and I throw away important documents like my insurance card and registration card EVERY YEAR. The crew at Honda think it is hysterical. Dave…not so much.

As much as I throw out, I love throwing stuff in rooms and shutting the door. Dave does not share this bad habit.

I hit my limit. When I hit my limit, have a goal, idea… watch out.

My closet and bathroom are done. Check out the before and after pictures!!

Get every piece of paper out of your bedroom and closet and place them in a laundry basket.

Deal with paper another day. I am in the process of figuring out how to tackle this and I am not a saver. For a lot of people this may be your biggest area of stress. I will keep you posted on how to organize all of your paper and my answer will not be to throw it all out… unless we are talking about your kid’s art work. Throw it out or let your dog eat it like our dog did… oops!! Check out the picture below!

Take everything out of your closet. Every last thing.

Clean and touch up paint. Dave had lots of issues with my quality of work here. The bottom line- it looks better than it did!!

Install a dead bolt on your bedroom door. Seriously. My kids can of course come in my room, especially in the middle of the night, but I am over them wrecking my room. No more socks, pencils, school bags and stuffed animals on my floor or in my bed.

Let me be honest… we usually kick our kids out in the middle of the night.

REALLY look at each item of clothing and decide if you have worn it or are going to wear it.

When you put things back into your closet (on matching hangers), put a noticeable sticker on everything. When you wear the article of clothing take the stickers off.

Go through your closet in six months. If the sticker is still there, reconsider donating the item.

Don’t try and do it all in one day. Clearly life was a little crazy here. When I started, Camryn was admitted to CHOP hours later. That is life, but it is not an excuse to give up.

Don’t throw out your spouses things. As tempting as it was, I “let” Dave go through everything. It was too much fun not to.

Keep lists of things you need to replace as you are working. Shopping was so rewarding after my hard work was done.

If your have space, put cards and gift bags in your closet in a cute container. I hate going down our basement to grab a gift bag. Watch out world when I get to that room.

Keep the cleaning supplies you need for the bathroom and bedroom in the bathroom.

Obviously I love to write. In each space I have index cards or a bulletin board so I can write things down as I think of them. I am obsessed with this!!

Buy a shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispenser and attach it to the wall. I was over bottles spilling everywhere.

I hope these tips help.

Thank God my kids think everything is funny and that their teacher and I bargained that they only needed to do one project. The dog would have died if they did two.

Hey Kristi. I coin the phrase. If you have not used or worn in the last three years donate to the thrift store. It has helped us not to keep stuff that we don’t need. You did an amazing job.🤗

I would love to hear from you. Your comments and shares are appreciated so much!
