Dave and I have been married for 15 years. We have one credit card that I have never seen a statement for. I just know Dave pays it each month. Thank God he is the responsible one with our finances!!
Iceland has been my dream vacation for 10 years. Dave tried to surprise me with this trip, but I unfortunately ruined it. Over Memorial weekend, for the first time ever, I needed to check the credit card to see if something that Dave told me I was charged for twice cleared. He logged me on, went outside and left me alone with the online statement. I scrolled through to find what I was looking for and I sure did. I found a charge from Icelandic Air.
I ran outside and yelled, “Dave, why did you let me look at your phone? WE’RE GOING TO ICELAND!!!” He responded, “I totally forgot you would see that. Thank God you know. You can help me plan.”
The weeks went by. It was the end of the school year and then the beginning of summer. No plans were made. He booked the flight and hotel, but other than that we were not at all prepared. We tend to operate this way. It seems to work for us. What is the worst thing that could happen is a united perspective.
We packed yesterday afternoon, left for airport at 4 and flew out of Philadelphia at 8:30. We have one suitcase. Dave will give the girls and me the world, but he draws the line at more than one suitcase. He will not give the airlines additional money, even if all 6 of us were traveling.
We landed in Iceland after a five hour and forty minute direct flight. It was 6am in Iceland when we arrived.
We rented a car with WIFI, I downloaded a book about Iceland on my IPad and we just went for it.
We drove 2 hours to visit the first stop on the Golden Circle and have been hopping in and out of the car all day. Here are some highlights…
It is now almost 5:30pm and we have had an amazing first day. It is such a beautiful place, despite the rain. We are now driving 2 hours to check into our hotel and then explore the city.
If you have ever been to Iceland, we would love suggestions.
